Background: Leadership deals with the ability of an individual or organization to “lead” or guide other individuals, teams, or entire organizations. A leader is someone who inspires: hope, stability, trust, and compassion. In order to be a good leader, we need to satisfy Maslow’s hierarchy of needs within our self so that we can share that with others. When Maslow’s hierarchy of needs are satisfied within ourself, we feel safe, compassionate, and are taking steps towards becoming our ideal self. Leadership involves radiating these qualities to those around us so that they can model them in their own life as well.

When we reach the mountaintop with regard to leadership, we realize that there is no mountaintop because it involves a constantly expanding event horizon. Leadership is not something that you arrive at. It is a journey that we are all on. Since there are “no mountaintops,” we are all on “level ground” in our efforts to become better leaders.
