Background: Salesforce is an American cloud computing company headquartered in San Francisco, California. Salesforce makes money from a customer relationship management (CRM) product and from commercial applications of social networking through acquisition. Salesforce is one of the most highly valued American cloud computing companies with a market capitalization above $55 billion in 2016. However, the company has never turned a GAAP profit in any fiscal year.
It is listed on the New York Stock Exchange with the symbol CRM and is one of the stocks in the S&P 500 Index.
Parker Harris and others wrote the initial sales automation software in 1999. In 2014, Salesforce developed the Customer Success Platform to tie together Salesforce’s services, including sales, service, marketing, analytics, community, and mobile apps.
